Classic Pasta Sauce

4 – Starter and Main dish

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 700 ml bottle passata (tomato puree)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 1/2. tsp cooking salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 cup fresh basil
  • 500 gm pasta or spaghetti
  • Parmesan cheese, grated (for serving)

Method

  1. On a medium heat, place the oil in a saucepan.
  2. Sauté the onion.
  3. On a high heat, add the bottle of passata, water, seasoning and
  4. basil, and stir and bring to the boil.
  5. Reduce the heat and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring regularly.
  6. While the sauce is cooking, cook and drain the pasta or spaghetti
  7. (as per packet instructions).
  8. When the sauce is cooked, stir it through the drained pasta
  9. or spaghetti.

To Serve

Serve hot, and top with a sprinkle of parmesan cheese.
